ORLANDO - A class of lucky Bronx sixth-graders was treated to an inside look at the attractions at Universal's Islands of Adventure Monday - and the kids got to cut every line.
The biggest hit with the group of 20 girls from the Urban Institute of Mathematics in Throgs Neck - winners of a Daily News contest - was the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man ride, an indoor 3-D roller-coaster simulator themed after the Marvel comic book.
First, the girls got to experience the ride with the lights on, to see how the machines worked. Then, they got to take a second turn, this time in the dark.
"I just liked how Spider-Man came right up to the car in the ride," said Mona Jiang, 12, who is on her first trip to Florida.
"It's my first time here and I read comic books, so I liked the Spider-Man ride a lot," said Dymond Ortiz, 12.
Following the Marvel Super Hero Island, the class was taken to Seuss Landing, where they learned about the career of the author, Theodor Seuss Geisel, and how Universal Orlando turned the popular book "The Cat in the Hat" into an attraction.
The class is spending three days at Universal Orlando Resort and Harry Potter World courtesy of The News after the students won a contest by collecting more than 4,000 News front pages.
The girls got VIP access to the park, never waiting on lines for rides like The Incredible Hulk Coaster.
On Sunday night, the class got to see the Blue Man Group, an interactive show that kept the group screaming and laughing for two hours.
"My favorite part was at the end when they took the toilet paper out, and it was all over us," said Lily Sperber, 11.
But Lily said she had the best time in the pool after the show.
"I love the beach pool with the slide," she said.
For Dymond, the show was extra special.
"My favorite part was when my mom was in the show, and they screamed, 'You're late!'" said Dymond, whose mom, Eliz Cruz, was pulled up from the audience during the show.
Annesah Ayub, 12, summed up the trip so far: "It was fun, and it hardly seemed that educational. It is just so fun."
Tomorrow, the class will take a behind-the-scenes look at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and the Universal movie attractions.
