What a year it has been, right? YOU have been an important part of so many events that enriched our Throggs Neck community. Because of your efforts, the smiles and benefits were even bigger than the previous years and your contributions haven’t gone unnoticed. Just take a look at all we’ve accomplished:
ANNUAL STREET FESTIVAL Each year your business has the opportunity to put a table outside and show off your wares and services and this year we were bigger and better than ever! We extended the fair down E. Tremont and if your establishment falls outside the limit, let us know so we can be sure to help you showcase in the future.
GOLF OUTING Can you say WOW?!! With your support this event netted more than ever before and helped to fund the important ways we support our neighborhood children. With everything from free school supplies to toy give-aways, your generosity paved the way for educational success stories and holiday smiles. Thank you for joining in the fun and digging deep this year.
BOWLING Everyone likes an easy night out, with no stress and just a little healthy competition. If you joined us this year, you know how much of a blast we had and if you didn’t, there’s always this year! Even if you don’t bowl, come be the cheering section for your favorites in this good old fashioned date night (with or without your own date!)
ANNUAL DINNER DANCE Okay so THIS is one of our Favorites, for sure! We are so lucky with our amazing community and it is at this event that we honor the best of the year. This year’s honorees were:
Business Couple of the Year – Maddalena and Salvatore DeSieno; Businessman of the Year – Anthony Mameli; Businesswoman of the Year – Melissa Liebman; Lifetime Achievement – David Flannery; Veteran Honoree – Roberto Oviedo.
What an amazing night we had in our Speakeasy Back Room filled with ladies in flapper dresses and boas, men in smart spats and hats, the photo booth told the story while we were all wined and dined at the Villa Barone. We had raffles for goodies like cameras and televisions and the ever important 50/50. The Silent Auction had some stunning paintings, sports memorabilia, jewelry and much more. People were up and dancing, table-hopping, and frankly just carrying on like a crowd of fun loving crazies! We loved it and hope you had as much fun as we did. We are SO looking forward to the next extravaganza!
HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING AND TOY GIVE AWAY …And this was the culmination of a our year of community engagement and fundraising activities. The skies were clear and just a tad cold which didn’t seem to deter the families lining up early in anticipation. The evening opened with the heavenly sounding St. Benedict’s Church Choir which encouraged everyone to sing along – the holiday spirit was flying high by now! As darkness fell the countdown started and the Tree was lit up to applause when who should we spy coming down E. Tremont but our favorite Jolly Guy in Red! You should have seen the faces on those kids as St. Nick pulled up to O’Boyle Square on a Fire Engine! The squeals of delight were heard up and down E. Tremont and he was practically mobbed getting up to the stage. The line of expectant children moved happily to Santa’s lap, whispered their heartfelt wishes and received a gift courtesy of our members’ generosity.
This event could not have happened without the efforts of some special people so we would like to extend our gratitude to Senator Alessandra Biaggi, Assembleymember Michael Benedetto and Councilmember Mark Gjonaj (and their staffs), La Terraza Restaurant (free hot chocolate!), the 45th Precinct, and everyone else who pitched in to make this a wonderful time!
